Quinn Hughes is officially on the brink of making NHL history
Quinn Hughes has quietly been one of the best defensemen in the NHL over the past three seasons and now could join one of the most elite clubs in the NHL.
Currently, Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks leads all defensemen in the NHL with 86 points, 70 of which have been assists. In terms of assists exclusively, Hughes is fourth in the NHL behind the expected three Hart trophy finalists, Connor McDavid, Nikita Kucherov, and Nathan MacKinnon.
Recently a statistic has surfaced proving just how dominant Hughes has been over the past three seasons.
Quinn Hughes has 199 assists over the last three seasons - only two defenseman in NHL history to have 200 or more assists over a three-season span:
Bobby Orr
Paul Coffey
Joining a club with Bobby Orr, the greatest defenseman in NHL history, and Paul Coffey one of the greatest offensive defenseman of all time.
Both recorded over 200 assists in three seasons multiple times but with Hughes looking like the third defenseman to hit this mark will push the narrative that he is deserving of winning the Norris trophy. Hughes has quietly improved over the past three years scoring 60 assists and 68 points in 2021-22, 69 assists and 78 points in 2022-23, and now 70 assists and 86 points this year in 2023-24.
