The biggest surprise of the season, if we can call it a surprise, has definitely been Alex Ovechkin's great performances.
While very few people doubt that he'll be able to beat Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record, most think he'll reach that mark after watching the Capitals captain score 25 points, including 15 goals, in only 18 games.
Unfortunately, last night, Ovi got injured. During a shift in the offensive zone, he had a dangerous knee-on-knee collision with Utah HC's Jack McBain.
The Caps captain remained on the ice before being assisted by the medical unit from the bench and ultimately returning to the locker room.
Check out how it went down in the following video:
This is a major blow for hockey fans who were hoping to see Ovi beat Gretzky's record this season. It was tough watching him get injured, especially considering he had one of the best season starts of his career, at 39 years old.
In a new development, concerns are growing over what Dr. Harjas Grewal shared on X when he revealed that Ovi could be dealing with an MCL injury.

Dr. Grewal mentions a four to six weeks recovery for Ovi, but an official verdict on his health will be released soon by his organization.
It would be a massive blow for him and the Caps, as he wasn't only getting closer to Gretzky's mark, but he carried the team, who's now in the top position of the Metropolitan Division, with a 13-4-1 record.
