The Winnipeg Jets are gearing up for a Stanley Cup Playoff run, and now they've officially heard a decision on the immediate future of Rutger McGroarty.
According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the team's 2022 first-round draft pick will be returning to the University of Michigan for his junior year, a decision that has been 100% supported by the organization.
Hearing Rutger McGroarty, Winnipeg's 2022 first-rounder, will return for his junior year at Michigan. Jets and his advisors discussed today, and team supported his decision.
The 20-year old winger followed up a point-per-game 39 points in 2022-23 with an impressive 52 points in 36 games this year as he projects to be a star in the NHL one day. However, with the Jets being as loaded as they are right now with veterans, this move makes plenty of sense for McGroarty as he looks to develop his game and his physicality before a move to the next level.
Rutger McGroarty announces he will return to the University of Michigan for the 2024-25 season!
When he makes that move, McGroarty is expected to play significant minutes for the Winnipeg Jets, and he will be just 21-years of age after his next NCAA season, so expect a major move then.
