The Detroit Red Wings have been on a major skid over the past two weeks. Today tempers flared as the team took on the Buffalo Sabres.

Chiarot Accidentally Punches Ref In The Face During Scrum

During the game, a scrum broke out after a whistle. It was centered around Sabres forward Jordan Greenway and Red Wings defenseman Ben Chiarot. What made this scrum stand out is the fact that one of the linesmen tried to jump in and break it up as the players were still going at each other aggressively. As a result, the linesman took a punch from Chiarot.

Ref literally caught the punch that Ben Chiarot was throwing 😅

The veteran Red Wings defender clearly has a lot of pent up emotions as this was the second incident he's been involved in over the past few days. Just a couple of days ago he got into a heated scrap with teammate Lucas Raymond during practice and the two had to be separated.

Ben Chiarot and Lucas Raymond had to be separated during Wings practice amid their six game slide. 😳

Typically, punching a referee invokes an automatic ejection and suspension. It does not appear that that will be the case in this instance as it was an accident, but you never know what the Department of Player Safety might have to say about it.

As seen on Linesman catches punch from Chiarot intended for Greenway.
