ECHL Defenseman Lashes Out At Linesman During Ejection
Last Friday the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL were playing a game, down late in the 3rd period. That's when defenseman Simon Kubicek earned an ejection after he argued a minor penalty called against him.
ECHL defenseman throws temper tantrum before getting ejected
A video of the incident went viral today when the BR Open Ice X account posted a video of it. The video quickly garnered hundreds of thousands of views as the scene was rather unbelievable.
Wild scene in the ECHL on Friday, when Norfolk's Simon Kubicek was ejected, and then hit the linesman with his stick as he was being escorted off the ice 😳
Kubicek received twenty-two penalty minutes in the action, the initial minor penalty, a misconduct, and a match penalty for abuse of officials. His teammate Mark Liwiski was also ejected although he went more peacefully, earning just a regular ten-minute misconduct.
Simon Kubicek and Mark Liwiski have been tossed from this game -- Kubicek and Liwiski have both put their sticks and hands on the official. That should be an interesting hearing tomorrow with the league:
Kubicek: He gets two minutes for holding, a ten-minute misconduct, and a game misconduct.
Liwiski gets a ten-minute misconduct. #ECHL
Shockingly, Kubicek was not suspended for his actions. This kind of behavior is virtually an automatic suspension in the NHL. Evander Kane once got suspended three games for a lesser transgression during a preseason game. That being said, Kane has a long history of malicious behavior.
The Simon Kubicek moment has officially gone viral, it is absolutely incredible that the #ECHL decided to not suspend him for his actions. This was quite wild to witness this in real time and what was going through his head at this exact moment and time, we may never know.
Kane's most recent incident came when the NHL fined him for spearing Columbus Blue Jackets forward Cole Sillinger. The Edmonton Oilers power forward is used to walking the fine line between clean and dirty, making that particular play unsurprising.
