The Capitals forward is known for his physical play and toughness. he is certainly not afraid to make a huge hit, drop the gloves, or otherwise get under the skin of his opponents. Last night though his frustrations showed as he went after Adam Fox in the 3rd period, with the Caps down 3-2 and their season on the line.
While Wilson's antics may have helped the team get across the finish line in the past, the Capitals were simply outclassed in this series. The Rangers gave them no room to breath and little hope of advancing to the second round. At the very least, they put them out of their misery early thanks to the game four win.
With the win, the Rangers became the 6th team ever to win the President's trophy and follow it up with a first-round sweep. Typically, teams that win the President's trophy do not win the Stanley Cup, but the Rangers will be looking to change that narrative this year.
After the game ended, the Capitals saluted their fans for supporting them this season. Given how the team is trending, this very well may have been the last chance Alex Ovechkin gets to play in the playoffs in his career. If it is, he went out with a wimper rather than a bang, recording zero points in the series.
