Carolina Hurricanes prospect Alexander Nikishin was injured yesterday after taking a high hit.

The 23-year-old defenseman was playing in a game for SKA. St. Petersburg of the KHL when he was hit up high by a player from Lokomotive.

At first, Alexander Nikishin appeared to shake it off as he immediately got back to his feet, but after taking one step, he fell to the ice awkwardly, landing on his chin.

Unfortunately, he would not return to the game and now it appears as though he may be out for some time.

Nikishin was set to participate in the KHL all-star game next month, but that no longer appears to be the case due to the injury.

The 23-year-old blueliner was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 3rd round, 69th overall in the 2020 draft.

Since then he has developed into arguably the top defenseman prospect in the world, putting up multiple all-star caliber seasons in the KHL already.

He joined SKA St. Petersburg for the 2022-23 season immediately becoming the team's best player putting up 55 points in 65 games.

Since then, he has served as the team's captain and has only continued to impress putting up 56 points including 17 goals last year and 29 points including 11 goals so far this season.

Nikishin is no slouch in his own zone either as he has demonstrated time and time again.

He always puts in the maximum effort to keep the puck out of his net.

It certainly does not hurt that he is 6'4" as well. The only thing that could make him better would be if he shot right-handed.

Nikishin is expected to join the Carolina Hurricanes after this year's KHL season is over.

That means he will likely make his NHL debut next season, something Hurricanes fans have been waiting for for a long time.
