The Metropolitan division lost their game to the Atlantic Division 10-6, but we got to see two of the games best all-time players in Crosby and Ovechkin play on a line together and set eachother up for some pretty nice goals.
After the game, Ovechkin met with the media and was pounded with questions as per usual, but one special reporter was there who works as an Washington based reporter in Samantha Pell.
Samantha had recently announced that the All Star game would be her final day at a beat reporter covering the Capitals and could be her last time getting to interview Alexander Ovechkin.
Some news: Tonight is my last game as the Capitals' beat writer for The Washington Post. I'm excited for what is next and am forever grateful for the support. I'll still be around through the ASG, but after that I'll be off to start a new chapter!! https://t.co/aianO4fHv5 pic.twitter.com/WWI8Jhzul4 Samantha Pell (@SamanthaJPell) January 31, 2023
Ovechkin knew of this and asked her if it was really her final interview, which she confirmed was true. We've seen in the past that athlete's don't always get along with the media, and we see how toxic it can be for players at times (Edmonton for example) - But Ovechkin knew Samantha for many years and gave her a great send off, giving her a hug after the interview.
He followed it up with a very nice hug after he walked off the podium. Fitting end. Samantha Pell (@SamanthaJPell) February 4, 2023
