Auston Matthews And The Maple Leafs Reportedly Come To New Contract

It has been reported by an insider that the Leafs and superstar Auston Matthews have come to an agreement on a contract extension that will see him locked up for the long term.

We have been told that the deal is good for five years or maybe less, but no financial details have been made public just yet, as the Leafs are approaching the news very cautiously.

With the great news of Matthews resigning in Toronto, there is some unfortunate news that also comes with this, but focusing around fellow young star William Nylander. It was also reported that the Leafs will more than likely be moving on from Nylander this offseason, as a trade is currently being worked on. The New York Islanders are currently the favorites, but that may easily change. With the number of early playoff exits that the Leafs have had already with this young core, it is clear that some changes do need to be made. With that, Nylander appears to be the odd one out from the group.

However, Leafs fans should still be very ecstatic that their team's superstar should now be locked up long-term, as we await an official report of this deal being done. But for now, the fans in Scotiabank Arena can definitely look forward to more Marner to Matthews connections on the ice for the foreseeable future.
