When Nathan MacKinnon and Taylor Hall collided it was clear that MacKinnon was hurt. He dropped to the ice in an awkward manner and blood was immediately seen dripping from his face onto the ice.
To the Avalanche it looked like Hall hit MacKinnon high, but replays showed it was clearly MacKinnon's own stick that had struck him in the face. MacKinnon left the ice with a trainer and he didn't return to the ice for the rest of the game.
Today Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar offered the following information on MacKinnon's health.
"Facial fracture and a concussion. He'll miss the next three games. Unclear if he'll be ready for All-Star Game."
The Avalanche have already begun to make changes to their powerplay with MacKinnon out of the lineup as they're already practicing by utilizing a second dman in MacKinnon's place.
The Avalanche have had multiple injuries earlier this season that they've overcome. Hopefully with the upcoming Olympic break MacKinnon can get back into the Avs' lineup sooner rather than later.
