The Washington Capitals are currently holding onto a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, but teams like the Florida Panthers and New York Islanders are pushing hard to take over that position.
Tonight the Capitals are playing the Carolina Hurricanes who are currently leading the Metropolitan division, and it's a huge must win for the Capitals after embarrassingly fizzling out to the San Jose Sharks on Sunday.
Unfortunately for the Capitals though, they will be without their superstar captain Alex Ovechkin.
According to the Capitals PR Team:
Washington Capitals senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today that captain Alex Ovechkin will be away from the team to attend to a family matter and the health of a loved one.
While the Capitals were practically unbeatable in December, 2023 has not been as nice to them as their scoring has gone way down and their race to stay in the playoffs is looking worse and worse by the day.
Ovechkin has 32 goals and 54 points in 54 games this season, and will be desperately missed tonight.
On behalf of House of Hockey, we wish to offer our sincerest condolences to his friends and family.
