They've been strongly promoting Pride Nights this year, where teams wear the rainbow coloured jerseys for warm ups.
This has sparked a bit of controversy amongst some players and fans, as some players have refused to wear the jerseys due to Christian beliefs, and in the case of Russian players, it is against Russian laws and they could be put in jail if they return to their home country.
So with these decisions it's been debated a lot whether this looks bad on the NHL and if it really is a ''welcoming'' place.
It was announced today that another team will not be wearing their pre-game pride jerseys.
Jim Rutherford, the St. Louis Blues writer for The Athletic, had this to say:
Blues players will not wear Pride jerseys during warmups before their Pride night game vs. the Flyers, a source tells @jprutherford.
St. Louis says it wants to put the focus on the positive things it's doing to support and affirm the LGBTQIA+ community.https://t.co/1iOAjwpRsF The Athletic NHL (@TheAthleticNHL) April 3, 2023
But just because they will not be wearing their pride jerseys, does not mean they wont be celebrating the evening. The Blues have a lot of great things going on pre-game, and you can read all about them here:
We're excited to welcome the LGBTQIA+ community and celebrate Pride Night on Tuesday at Enterprise Center. https://t.co/kjdk8a1XfW St. Louis Blues (@StLouisBlues) April 3, 2023
