The Toronto Maple Leafs have hosted some of the greatest players in NHL history, and last week, they saw more history made from their Captain John Tavares.

A ceremony to honour Tavares' great achievement

Last week, the 33-year old joined an elite group of NHL players as he registered 1,000 career points (436 goals and 568 assists and counting), and now, he's going to get the proper acknowledgement.

According to a report, the Maple Leafs will delay tonight's game against the New York Rangers to give he and his family a ceremony to celebrate his achievement.

Update: The Leafs will be honouring Captain John Tavares tonight for reaching 1,000 career points last week in New York. Tavares and his family will be honoured with a ceremony pre game.

A fantastic career continues to roll on

After starting his career with the New York Islanders, the Ontario native made the huge free agent call to return home to Toronto, playing a combined 1,057 games between the two teams.

After all this time, he remains close to a point per game player, and if his career can go on for another few years, there's no telling where he will go down among the greatest to ever lace their skates.
