Last night the Maple Leafs pulled off a blockbuster trade bringing in Ryan O'Reilly to an already stacked roster, and apparently the Maple Leafs are far from done.
One thing this team has desperately needed for a long time is better defence and that could be exactly what Kyle Dubas is trying to do.
According to NHL Insider Darren Dreger:
Leafland is buzzing, as it should be. Sense is, Dubas isn't done, which emphasizes an all-in approach. Kerfoot? Engvall? Holl? Kampf? What collateral does Toronto use for another move? Very curious to see if ROR is a 3c or if there's big league experimenting on the wing. Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) February 18, 2023
There are some big names still available for trade in the NHL and if the Maple Leafs can swing a trade to get rid of the contracts of Kerfoot ($3,500,000 cap hit) Engvall ($2,250,000 cap hit) Holl ($2,000,000 cap hit) and Kampf ($1,500,000 cap hit) thats 9,250,000 in cap space free'd up.
They could still make a trade for a Patrick Kane if the Blackhawks were to retain salary and also bring in Jakob Chychrun!
