The Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the team heavily affected by the Salary cap not rising, and not only have they been affected by salary cap, they are now being affected by contract limit as well.
A team can operate with 50 contracts in their organization and they've been using all 50 this season, so to free up a spot, they made the decision today to terminate one of their contracts.
In 2020, the Maple Leafs used their 177th overall pick to select Axel Rindell. This was his first season over in North America, where he started in the ECHL and quickly rose up to the AHL.
Through 6 games in the AHL though, things have not quite worked out, going pointless in all 6.
It seems like he doesn't want to be in the Toronto organization anymore as the two parties agreed on the termination.
It sounds like there was a mutual understanding between the #leafs and Axel Rindell.
This will allow the 22-year-old defenceman to pursue other options, while opening up a contract slot for the team (they had been carrying the maximum 50). Chris Johnston (@reporterchris) December 15, 2022
