Earlier today the NHL announced that Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri wouldn't face any supplemental discipline from the League for the Incidental contact with St Louis Blues Goaltender Jordan Binnington.
The Blues didn't agree with the decision, feeling Kadri intended to Injure Binnington. This was obviously frustrating to the Blues and their fans as the Blues find themselves down 2-1 in the series and without their starting Goaltender for the reminder of the playoffs. But a small majority of St Louis Blues fans are going overboard with comments and actions.
As Nazem Kadri has shared he's now being harassed and threatened on social media with racist comments from fans. This is no laughing matter, NHL activist Hakim Aliu indicating that the threats were serious enough that law enforcement has become involved in the matter.
From Aliu:
"Talked to Nazem Kadri about his inadvertent collision with Binnington. Naz has been subject to so many racist attacks and threats since last night that police had to be brought in. Racist attacks like this have no place in hockey and should be investigated and reported on."
It shouldn't have to be said but if the thought of engaging in this type of behavior has ever crossed your mind, please refrain from doing so. Remember Hockey is a sport and it's meant to be played for fun.
