Former NHL goaltender Martin Brodeur recently shared a story about how St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington refused to be sent down to the American Hockey League.

At the time, Brodeur was assistant general manager to Doug Armstrong with the Blues.

Apparently, Armstrong was away from the team on business, so he asked Brodeur to tell Binnington that he was being sent back down to the AHL.

This was not an acceptable request for the netminder, so he flatly refused to leave the team, telling the Hall of Fame goaltender that he was not going anywhere.

This story takes place during the 2018-19 season which has gone down as one for the history books for both the St. Louis Blues and the NHL as a whole.

Binnington started that season in the ECHL and worked his way up to join the Blues after their miserable start to the season.

By American Thanksgiving, the Blues were dead last in the entire NHL and appeared to have no hopes of making the playoffs. Then came Jordan Binnington.

The then 25-year-old netminder would appear in 32 regular-season games through the remainder of the season and played spectacularly, carrying the team to the playoffs.

He put up a 24-5-1 record in 30 starts and posted career highs in save percentage, goals-against-average, and shutouts.

He even led the entire league with his minuscule 1.89 GAA. Furthermore, he had five shutouts in just 30 starts.

That obviously would put him on pace for 10 shutouts in a 60-start season.

For reference, Binnington started exactly 60 games in the 2022-23 season and recorded just 2 shutouts.

While he's never quite reached those highs again in his career, Binnington won't care too much as he's already etched his name in the Stanley Cup.

Binnington has a career record of 156-110-34 in 310 games played. He has a career GAA of 2.80 and a save percentage of .907.
