Tristan Jarry had a rough season, both in the regular season and playoffs last year. Many of the experts were saying that if the Penguins don't improve their goaltending, they will never win. But what did Jarry do? He took that criticism and responded this season with an impressive 34-18-6 record and posting a .919 save percentage and 2.42 goals against average.
But we have heard some unfortunate news today regarding the Penguins starting goalie. He has reported suffered a broken bone in his foot and is considered week-to-week.
Bones in your feet are usually slower to heal and the average length of time is anywhere between 6-12 weeks according to foothealthfacts.org, so this is horrible news for the Penguins who are just two weeks away from the playoffs.
If Jarry is unable to start the playoffs, they will need to go with backup goaltender Casey DeSmith, who only played in 22 games this season and has 92 games of NHL experience. DeSmith is a decent enough backup goalie but he is not the calibre of goaltending who will help you win in the playoffs. To date this season he only had a .907 save percentage and went 8-5-5 on the season.
Tristan Jarry is dealing with a broken bone in his foot, per multiple sources.
Mike Sullivan said earlier today the goalie is out "week-to-week." Not great with just two weeks left in the regular season. @colin_dunlap was the first to throw this out there. Mike DeFabo (@MikeDeFabo) April 16, 2022
