RMNB reports that Evgeny Kuznetsov, the star forward for the Washington Capitals, has requested a trade. This request is not a new development, as there has reportedly been friction between Kuznetsov and the Capitals for the past two seasons. The organization had explored trading Kuznetsov last season, which led to a strained relationship between the player and the team.
Kuznetsov's role on the Capitals has decreased in recent years, particularly with the addition of Dylan Strome and Kuznetsov's reduced offensive output. In the current season, Kuznetsov has only scored 12 goals and has a -18 rating in 72 games played. He has three years remaining on his contract, which pays him $7.8M annually and includes a no-trade clause for 15 teams.
With the Washington Capitals currently retooling to bring in some younger players, they might be keen to trade Kuznetsov to a team this offseason to accelerate that effort.
The issue will be though that keeping Alexander Ovechkin happy is the goal for Washington and Ovechkin is good friends with Kuznetsov and has tremendous chemistry.
