Connor McDavid Makes Strong Comments on NHL Pride Nights
The NHL has taken steps to stop Pride Night celebrations, and Connor McDavid recently made comments on the decision.
McDavid Dislikes NHL's Decision to Ban Pride Nights
Connor McDavid recently shared his opinion on Pride Nights being banned in the NHL after a small group of players refused to wear pride-themed warmup jerseys last season.
"I know in Edmonton, we were one of the first teams to use the Pride Tape," McDavid said. "In our dressing room, we strongly feel that hockey is for everybody. That includes the Pride Nights."
McDavid is one of many NHL players who has been vocal in their support for Pride Nights to make the NHL a more welcoming space for everyone.
Columbus is having their pride night tonight - both John Tavares and Mitch Marner are playing with pride tape on their sticks. :) McDavid Doesn't Think that the Small Group of Players Were A Distraction
McDavid also spoke about the reasoning that the NHL gave for the ban, which was that the Players who refused to participate were distracting from the celebration and intent of the night.
"I don't think it had to have been a distraction, It could have been a non-issue while focusing on the good that was coming out of those nights."
If players continue to speak about the decision, including the NHL's stars like McDavid, we could see the NHL go back to allowing Pride-themed jerseys in warmups again.
