The William Nylander saga has seemingly quietened down as of late, but that doesn't mean the Maple Leafs haven't given up on a potential trade of their 27-year old star.
Pushing for a trade?
While many expected the Leafs to pivot and lock down the final member of their core four, that may not be the case after all, as detailed in the latest report of Hockey Buzz' Eklund.
That report states that not only have the Maple Leafs not given up hope that a trade could materialize before the season, but apparently, they've been pushing for it while remaining under the radar.
4 Teams, all of whom have at one point or another discussed possible trade ideas with Toronto surrounding William Nylander. and one other who just inquired in the last 72 hours.
Toronto did a fine job at staying under the radar temporarily but the word is out that they want very much to move Willyideally by the opener.
Four main finalists
The report revealed that one new surprise team, who Eklund speculates could be the Chicago Blackhawks have entered the fray, but given what we know of the summer, it appears the four finalists are the Avalanche, Wild, Islanders and Devils.
All of these teams would get significantly better with Nylander on their roster, but given Toronto's astronomical asking price, something has to change if a big deal is to be made soon, so watch this space.
