Evander Kane calls out disgusting play, says it's exactly why fighting is needed
Evander Kane of the Edmonton Oilers is calling out a terrible incident at the World Championships, while simultaneously using it to make the case for fighting in the NHL.
The Incident
Earlier today at the World Hockey Championships, Joe Veleno of Team Canada used his skate to aggressively stomp on the foot of Switzerland captain Nino Niederreiter. It was an awful decision, and one that didn't even draw a penalty.
Canada ended up losing the game 3-2.
Wrath of Kane
Kane used his Twitter account to call the ply disgusting, and added it's exactly why fighting is needed in the NHL, something that's frowned upon at IIHF tournaments and usually carries heftier punishments.
"This is why fighting in Hockey is needed, it discourages ideas like this and helps police the game effectively. Disgusting play to watch. Especially after my injury this year. Embarrassing."
This is the play Kane is referring to where he had his arm cut by the skate of Pat Maroon.
