Scary Scene at the World Championship as Red Wings Forward Tries to Cut Jets Forward With Skate
Even though these players have been eliminated from the NHL playoffs, they extended their seasons through the world championships and the bad blood remains.
Veleno Tries To Cut Niederreiter
While the Detroit Red Wings and Winnipeg Jets are no longer playing this season, that doesn't mean their players aren't playing.
Red Wings forward Joe Veleno and Jets forward Nino Niederreiter are representing their respective nations at the IIHF world championship.
Today, they faced off and a scary scene unfolded during a board battle.
While battling for the puck, Veleno tried to cut Niederreiter's leg by stomping on it with his skate.
This is an obviously very dirty play and is disappointing of Veleno. Thankfully, Niederreiter was not hurt but he was penalized after he retaliated against Veleno shortly after the board battle ended.
There is no doubt that Veleno will face punishment from the IIHF and will likely be suspended multiple games.
