We are now just a few weeks away from the start of NHL training camps and PK Subban, a former Norris winning defenceman is still a free agent.
Subban is coming off a contract that was originally signed by the Montreal Canadiens, that paid him $72 million over 8 years. He was traded not too long after signing this deal to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Shea Weber, then later traded to the New Jersey Devils.
Drafted 47th overall back in 2007, last season Subban is coming off a year where he scored 5 goals and 22 points while averaging just over 18 minutes of ice time.
The former star defenceman was looking for a new team in free agency after the New Jersey Devils told him they would not be re-signing him, and Subban was hoping to find that perfect fit to rejuvenate his career.
Unfortunately though, we are almost at the end of the offseason and we still dont see him on a new team.
This is what his agent had to say:
"Teams have expressed interest but aren't in a position to sign now, as they've got other things in play"
Subban definitely isn't that high scoring Norris calibre defenceman anymore, but given the right opportunity, he can still definitely be a 10+ goal scoring defenceman.
According to a report by Hockey Feed , Rick Dhaliwal believes that teams are staying away from Subban because of his age, stating that the Canucks haven't even reached out to Subban's party because of this issue.
