When this season is all said and done and the dearly loved Minnesota Wild goalie Marc-Andre Fleury rides off into retirement, we think we can confidently say he's undisputedly the prank king of the NHL.
Always the stuff of legends, it seemed he just couldn't resist one final prank against his old team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, this past weekend.
Both the Wild and Penguins landed in the same hotel in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday, and Marc-Andre Fleury's target? None other than longtime buddy Sidney Crosby.
Fair play to Sidney Crosby and the Penguins for drawing first blood, slipping into Fleury's room while he was on the ice, and rearranging a few things for the prankster's benefit. But they may have underestimated the payback at the hands of Fleury.
When Crosby arrived to play the Hurricanes on Sunday night, he found his equipment had been playfully tampered with: His visor was smeared with Vaseline, his jock strap stuffed with beef sticks, and his skate laces flipped upside down.
It would appear Fleury tracked down Crosby's equipment bag, well aware his friend was behind the earlier prank, and made sure to return the favor.
This may be Fleury's last chance to prank Crosby while both are active players, but retirement likely won't end Fleury's pranking career. Knowing his playful spirit, he is probably just getting started in finding new ways to keep his friends on their toes.
