Team Canada fell in embarrassing fashion at the World Juniors, and after plenty of criticism sent towards Easton Cowan, a Maple Leafs star has stood up for him.
Over the past few weeks, there's been intense criticism sent the way of Hockey Canada and the players for the embarrassing fashion in which they flamed out of the 2025 World Juniors tournament.
However, the one player that has received more criticism and hatred online than anyone is Easton Cowan, who certainly didn't have the best tournament, but given how hard he tried, it's tough to see why the hatred has been taken to the level it has.
This has seemingly caught on with the Maple Leafs, as some of the players have thrown their support behind Toronto's top prospect, with former captain John Tavares commenting on the situation.
"Someone like Easton's got tremendous potential and is going to play a significant role with the team and the club for a long time and be a very good player,» Tavares said via The Hockey News. «So, it's never easy for him or all those kids with that opportunity to play for Canada, play on home soil, and to just not go the way you wanted it to go.»
Unfortunately for Tavares, being in Toronto and leaving New York for his hometown team in free agency, he's got experience dealing with this type of backlash, to which he urged Cowan to learn from the criticism he's dealing with.
"Every player goes through adversity at different points of their career, and it's really an opportunity for growth and to get better and to learn from it. No doubt he'll be surrounded by a lot of great people, certainly us in here support him tremendously," he added.
It appears as though Cowan has plenty of supporters high up in the Maple Leafs organization, and with that support and all the talent he's got, there's no reason why he can't become a solid NHLer for years to come.
