Maple Leafs fans can't seem to catch a break, and depending on how you view Kyle Dubas, this news could be yet another blow. New reports are surfacing that indicate that Dubas' future in Toronto isn't as guaranteed as previously thought, and it could mean major changes for Toronto.

Thanks for the Time, Kyle

While Kyle Dubas has been adamant that he will either return to Toronto for next season or take some time off to be with his family, very little has leaked regarding his contract status and any potential extension. No contract for Dubas could mean Toronto has already started looking elsewhere for his replacement, and a new report by Chris Johnston seems to confirm that suspicion.

"I know a lot of people around the situation, and there's more and more thought that he might not be the GM of the Leafs moving in to next season." - Chris Johnston

Dubas Gone, Core Four Next?

Dubas' departure would likely shake the Leafs to their core, as he is largely responsible for assembling their current roster. If a new general manager comes into Toronto and sees all of these massive contracts that he didn't sign, could he look to blow it all up and rebuild?

Players like Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and potentially even John Tavares could all fetch the Leafs massive returns, and would surely accelerate their rebuild faster than any normal rebuild. Toronto could use this opportunity to get younger and give themselves more cap flexibility.

This is, of course, just a hypothetical. Anything can happen, but nothing is certain at this time.
