Today's hockey isn't what it used to be and it's a good thing. Players used to be reckless and weren't protected as they are nowadays. Serious injuries were frequent and consequences weren't always given after dangerous plays.

A former enforcer recently shared his thoughts about the incident involving Sam Bennett and Michael Bunting.

In case you missed it, Bennett was fined $5,000 for the cross-check on Bunting during the second game between Florida and Toronto.

Some say he should've been suspended, others, on the contrary, don't think Bennett deserves to be fined.

Matthew Barnaby Under the Microscope After Comments on Bennett's Rampage

Here's what he published on Twitter Saturday morning:

"For anyone crying on Bennett? Shouldn't even be a fine. #Soft"

Barnaby played 834 games in the NHL and got 2,562 penalty minutes in his career.

The enforcer's old school style doesn't really reflect today's mentalities. Fans and players don't like when serious injuries occur or unnecessary violent plays happen.

He's far removed from the league, and he probably wouldn't see the outside of the box too much if he were still in it!

Do you think Barnaby is right?
