For instance the former Habs management staff liked to have most of the control over the players and they interact with the media. Marc Bergevin was a personal general manager he liked things ran a certain way in addition the former GM would always asked his players to stay away from the media.
The NHL is all about Social media and expression. On this subject, Cole Caufield recently told the new vice-president of communications, Chantal Machabée, that he would never have been able to be himself if Bergevin was still in office. You don't want that type of person dictating your team, it's going to cause problems like it did in Montreal.
This morning, on 91.9 Sports, Luc Gélinas went even further to demonstrate how former CH executives don't like journalists. He said that Marc Bergevin would have made an incredible request to the league.
It's like night and day difference in the Canadiens management now. This team was a mess on and off the ice. But the change has been a breath of fresh air since the arrival of the Hughes/Gorton duo and, especially, Chantal Machabée. In addition to respecting the media, the two newcomers seem to want to rebuild the bridge with the organization's old-timers and pick up the pieces.
The new Management is doing an excellent job connecting the Habs to social media, as well as hiring the right people including the Canadiens new head coach Martin St Louis. The Canadiens are going to have some tough times ahead as they rebuild but that connection from to to media is there again and I think that's a good thing for everyone.
