On Sunday, during some on-ice pushing and shoving that required Bunting to be calmed down by his teammates before a penalty was called, Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe had had enough of Bunting. When Bunting returned to the bench, Keefe gave him an earful, but Bunting refused to even acknowledge him, prompting Keefe to tap him on the shoulder again to get his attention. Bunting may have even rolled his eyes a bit during their conversation.
After their "chat," Bunting was benched for the remainder of the game, which was just over six minutes. Despite this, Toronto held on to their 3-2 lead and defeated the Nashville Predators. While Bunting is known for standing up for himself and his teammates, it seems Keefe was more concerned with preventing a penalty call that could have led to a tied game at the end of regulation.
