The Canadian government had previously provided an exemption to any unvaccinated professional sports player under a National interest exemption, but according to the Canadian Free Press that will be changing.
As of January 15th the NHL, AHL and all major sports leagues will no longer receive any exemption for any unvaccinated or partially vaccinated players. Making it pretty simple, no vaccine and no participation.
When the season began the NHL only had 4 unvaccinated players and multiple partially vaccinated players. These changes shouldn't cause too much impact on the NHL, but it'll be interesting to see if there are any major ramifications.
