Last night the Toronto Maple Leafs hosted the Florida Panthers in what finished as a 5-4 overtime win for the Maple Leafs on a goal from William Nylander.
The game had so many penalties that it felt like it was never played at 5 on 5. The game saw 16 penalties called, 10 of which resulted in powerplays, 7 of those were given to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
After the game, obviously frustrated, Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice spoke with the media and vented his frustrations:
Well, it'll always be penalties that you take in the game you earn, and there's a whole bunch of (penalties) you're not gonna like it all. I thought we had the inordinate share of those.
I don't know what the hell those guys were doing tonight. But it wasn't Florida Pantherfriendly.
He later went on to say:
I just explained to 'em, it had nothing to do with my players; it had to do with me and a relationship that I have with one of the referees. That's what that was all about. So, just go out, keep your mouth shut, and play the game.
