Former enforcer of the Canadiens Chris Nilan wasn't as happy as the rest of the fans during last night's game, as he took shots at Marc-Andre Fleury at the end.

The Montreal Canadiens left the ice Thursday night without a goal but with plenty of respect.

Minnesota Wild goalie Marc-Andre Fleury posted a 4-0 shutout against the Habs, to become the first NHL netminder in history to record a shutout both as a teenager and at 40+.

In the rarest of moments after the game, the Canadiens players and coaches congregated at center ice to shake his hand as he celebrated his last game at the Bell Centre in front of his family.

«We paid our respects to a player who deserves that respect. A long career, a French guy, in Quebec,» Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis said. «I think it was our obligation to do that, even after the result.»

Chris Nilan says he would never shake hands like that after a game

Former Canadiens enforcer Chris Nilan couldn't believe it on Friday. Speaking to Pierre McGuire on 'The Sick Podcast', Nilan said that he realizes the game has changed, but he'd have never greeted an opposing goaltender like that.

In fact, he even joked he might have gotten physical with Fleury if he was in the lineup. Fleury is a hometown favorite from Sorel, near Montreal, and is set to retire at season's end after 21 seasons with Pittsburgh, Vegas, Chicago, and Minnesota.

Chris Nilan had been a part of the Stanley Cup-winning side of the Habs in 1986; he played tough, old-school hockey. He says that it kind of gnaws on him to see these players shake hands after games, even if it involves a player as special as Fleury.
