This has been the year of the waiver-wire! Day after day we see big names placed on waiver, and today we see the Detroit Red Wings place a forward on waivers that was an original draft pick of Steve Yzerman back in Tampa Bay and was one of the first players he traded for as General Manger of the Wings.
Elliotte Friedman reported today, amongst all the All-Star Weekend news, that the Detroit Red Wings have placed Adam Erne on waivers.
Erne is in his 4th season with the Red Wings and currently has 4 goals and 14 points in 43 games this season.
Erne is a fan favourite in Detroit, he provides solid bottom 6 depth. Fans are upset that this is not a trade deadline deal and the Wings are risking losing him for nothing.
