The 2023 NHL All-star weekend officially got underway last night when they had to skills competition to showcase some of the best players in the National Hockey League and their talents.
Today the games officially started, but one of the major parts of the event this weekend has unfortunately been postponed or cancelled.
As reported by the NHL Public Relations social media page, due to severe weather conditions the Truly Hard Seltzer Beach Festival has been cancelled due to the beach being closed:
The National Hockey League today announced that due to severe weather conditions, including dangerous winds with gusts up to 40 m.p.h., the Truly Hard Seltzer #NHLAllStar Beach Festival is closed today.
The NHL puts in a lot of effort to make this weekend a fun atmosphere for everyone attending. They want it to be a memorable weekend for more than just the players, but the fans attending and watching as well.
When Bettman was talking about the event today, he had this to say:
All-star weekend itself doesn't really generate net revenue. It's a very expensive endeavor. We don't do this to make money, we do this as a reason to be part of the NHL family. We bring in the players and we put on a show. It's all part of branding.
Fans were definitely quick to jump all over him though:
