There was once a time in the National Hockey League where Milan Lucic was one of the best players in the game. Sure he didn't put up 100+ point seasons and he wasn't flashy, but he was a player that could score 20+ goals 50+ points in his sleep, throw a ton of hits and intimidate the competition to the point where it would throw off their entire teams game.
But unfortunately long gone are the days of him as a Big Bad Bruin, and after signing a rather large contract with the Edmonton Oilers and not panning out, the now Calgary Flame has found himself on the trade market.
This season Lucic is mostly a 4th line player, but does show on occasion that he can still be a big factor. Whether that is contributing some points every now and then, delivering a big hit, or a fight, Lucic is still definitely someone a team would want when it comes to the playoffs.
He has 4 goals and 13 points this season, and if a team is looking for a player to put on the 4th line that they can move into the top 6 on occasion, he fits that bill. Unlike a player like Ryan Reaves who only provides the toughness, Lucic can bring some skill to the game as well, just not the foot speed anymore.
It's being rumoured that the New York Rangers are interested in acquiring Lucic's services for their playoff run this year. The Rangers just traded away their former tough guy Ryan Reaves, but the need for an enforcer is still required in this game, maybe not as much, but it still helps keep players off the stars.
According to Larry Brooks, Lucic could be the perfect fit for the Rangers.
