Horvat is currently having a career year points wise and at the age of 27, he is just entering his prime years which the New York Islanders are hoping the best is yet to come.
Due to the all-star break, we have yet to see Bo Horvat play a game with the Islanders, but everyone is very excited to see what he can bring to this roster.
The Islanders are currently outside of a playoff spot, but hope that bringing in this goal scoring machine this season will change that.
Horvat is on the final year of a deal that looks drastically undervalued right now and is looking for a significant raise on his current deal. The Islanders traded a lot to bring in Horvat, who is a UFA at the end of this season and risked a lot making the trade as well.
Due to the Vancouver Canucks not allowing teams to pre-negotiate with Horvat, teams had to be willing to make the trade in hopes that he would be willing to sign an extension with them and well, it sounds like Horvat isn't even thinking about that right now.
What he said: He'll let his agent and Lou deal with it
What #Isles fans read: He told his agent to ignore all of Lou's calls because he's most definitely not re-signing Laura Coleman (@Yodasnuggs) February 2, 2023
The New York Islanders missed the playoffs last season after going to back to back Eastern Conference finals. They are a team that is built for playoff hockey, but they are not an overly exciting team, and that doesn't excite star players because they play a 'boring' style of hockey.
We have seen a situation similar to this with star players twice recently, where they tell the public that ''they are not thinking of an extension at this time and we will deal with it at a later date, and sadly, the Islanders are one of the teams it's already happened to. We've seen John Tavares leave the Islanders and Johnny Gaudreau leave the Calgary Flames, leaving both teams with nothing, and it has to be terrifying for Islanders fans to possibly see history repeated with Horvat.
