Bettman is the face of the NHL and takes the brunt of everything to do with financials, and recently Allan Walsh called Bettman out on a stat that looks embarrassing compared to other Major Sports leagues.
There are no NHL players among the top 100 highest paid athletes in 2022. Just the way Gary's triple cap, hard salary cap was intended to operate. pic.twitter.com/u3SI2lwiJx Allan Walsh (@walsha) October 14, 2022
Allan Walsh went on to talk and criticize the salary cap in the NHL and provided a graph showing the highest paid athletes of all time and the fact that no NHL players are in it.
Said the guy who made over $50M while playing in the NHL and part of the group of players that stabbed the NHLPA/Bob Goodenow in the back during the 2004/05 lockout. Every NHL player today can partly thank ol JR for the salary cap and escrow. https://t.co/MLFQsecPQK Allan Walsh (@walsha) September 19, 2019
The NHL is projected to bring in over $5 billion over last season, and sadly this is one of the lower earning leagues.
This graphic shows the top earners in each sport, and thankfully they added Tennis so Hockey wouldn't be the lowest one:
The NHL's top-paid players reportedly make about $1M apiece from off-ice endorsements... definitely room for improvement.
