Hockey family we are hurting right now. Years ago our family was struck by the unfortunate Humboldt Broncos incident and last night we have had another situation.
A Chicago based College prep hockey team suffered a horrible crash on their team bus.
According to the Warsaw Police report, 16 people which include members of the Chicago St. Ignatius College Prep hockey team were injured and 3 are in critical condition after the bus was hit by a semi-truck.
The bus was leaving a local restaurant when it was struck and according to the reports, atleast one person was ejected from the bus.
The students were part of a hockey team playing in a tournament in Culver about 110 miles southeast of Chicago. After having dinner in Warsaw, they were headed to a local hotel when a semi driver slammed into their bus.
-Eye Witness News It's been reported that the Semi that hit the bus:
with New Jersey registration that ran a red light and was driving unstably. At the same time, police reported that they received a phone call of a semi-truck speeding, swerving into other lanes and driving off the roadway."
The driver is now in Police custody and is suspected to have been driving under the influence of alcohol.
What makes this accident even worse is that apparently the truck did not even stop after hitting the bus, but continued going until he eventually drove into a ditch.
