The Toronto Maple Leafs are currently $2,143,116 over the cap and waivers were due at 2pm today and it seems like they are trying to get rid of a former 32 goal scorer to become cap compliant.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman stated that the Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas has sent an email to the entire leaving trying to trade Wayne Simmonds.

With season-opening rosters finalized tomorrow afternoon, TOR sent email making it known 1,019-game vet Wayne Simmonds is available. Return is not as important as "doing right by the player." Simmonds has said he feels good and very much wants to play. Hopefully, there's a path.

While Simmonds isn't the high scoring power forward he used to be, he would still be a valuable asset to a team. He is mostly a fourth line player now, but over his career of 1019 games, he has put up 263 goals and 524 points. He played on the PP for the Maple Leafs last season and scored 16 points in 72 games. If a team is looking to add a little muscle and leadership, Simmonds would be a valuable addition.
