A few weeks ago we saw an incident in the National Hockey League where Edmonton Oilers star player Evander Kane had his wrist slit open by a skate blade and had to have surgery to repair it.

Now just last night a similar situation happened to a player in the Ontario Hockey League. A player on the Kingston Frontenac's Maleek McGowan also had his wrist cut open by a skate blade just 4 minutes into the game:

4 minutes into the third period of tonight's game, defenceman Maleek McGowan suffered an injury on a scary incidental play. He is in stable condition and alert. He is being taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Luckily for Maleek, the medical staff was ready and helped him every step of the way making sure he got all the medical attention required.

He was rushed to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

The Frontenacs issued this update:

The Kingston Frontenacs Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Maleek McGowan underwent successful surgery last night. He is in stable condition, safe and on the road to recovery.

We would like to thank our training and medical staff led by Chris Nelson and Dr. Jennifer Hacking, the North Bay Battalion training staff, the onsite paramedics, Leon's Centre staff, and the medical team at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KGH) for their immediate attention while treating and caring for Maleek McGowan.

We wish Maleek all the best in his recovery process.
