Uncertainty lingers over the giant all-Canadian tilt on Saturday night between the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada.
What appeared to be a mouth-watering match is now dealing with its fair share of complications that may affect the game as a whole.
The Canucks were already at a disadvantage going into the back-to-back, having been shutout 2-0 by the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night. However, it was off the ice that the major hurdle arose.
Heavy weather in Raleigh saw dozens of flights canceled and, along with it, the grounding of the Canucks and their scheduled departure for Toronto.
According to insider Ian MacIntyre, the team had a two-hour flight from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport but was instead scrambling for options.
The Canucks now have to try and depart on game day, something no professional team wants to have happen.
They still can show up in Toronto if the weather permits; the question is what time. Any further delays could result in disrupted warm-ups or adjusted schedules.
While a complete cancellation is highly unlikely, anything ranging from a delayed start to a listless Canucks roster cannot be entirely ruled out. Concerned fans will have to keep updated as this develops.
The one thing for sure is that the Canucks will face well more than just the Maple Leafs: time and the elements.
