Wright was the projected first overall pick for over 2 years and slid to 4th after the Canadiens, Devils and Coyotes all passed over him. The Kraken were more than happy to select this elite two-way center at the 4th spot and hope that he will be a key piece to their future.
The Kraken finished 3rd last in the league last season, but after a few major acquisitions this offseason, they're hoping to change that.
The lineup for the Kraken in their home opener was revealed, and fans are definitely not happy with how they're treating their top prospect.

As a developing 18 year old who is supposed to be providing scoring, playing Shane Wright on the 4th line is almost like a slap to the face. While he is young and has not played in an NHL game yet, the Kraken need to put him in a position to succeed. Playing him on the 4th line is not giving him that opportunity.
They're going to ruin Shane Wright by playing him on the 4th line and not sending him to the OHL— BarnesGotNext #GoHabsGo (@BarnesGotNext) October 11, 2022
