Nick Cousins, one of the dirtiest players in the NHL was officially punished by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for elbowing.

Last night, the Ottawa Senators and the Buffalo Sabres met on the ice in a crucial game for the standings.

With less than 10 points between the third and eighth spots in the Atlantic Division, all games are important, especially when two teams of the division are facing each other on the ice.

The Buffalo Sabres ended up winning 4-0 against the Senators in an action-packed evening.

During the third period, Nick Cousins, one of the dirtiest players in the whole National Hockey League, lost his temper and landed a controversial hit on Jacob Bryson of the Sabres.

Cousins received only a two-minute penalty on the play, but the NHL's Department of Player Safety still decided to review the incident.

On Friday morning, they announced a verdict.

In a post on X, it was revealed that Cousins will need to pay a $2,083.33 fine for elbowing, the maximum amount allowed by the collective bargaining agreement.

Here's the NHL's official statement on the incident, announcing the verdict:

Frustration was palpable on the Ottawa Senators bench in the third period. This was the team's fourth straight loss, and they are now tied with the Montreal Canadiens with 41 points in 40 games.

Throughout his career, Cousins has always brought a lot of physical intensity, wherever he played.

Since he was drafted 68th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2011, the 31-year-old center took part in 630 NHL games with the Flyers, Arizona Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Nashville Predators, Florida Panthers, and Senators.

He tallies 192 points, including 76 goals, but most importantly, 339 penalty minutes in regular seasons, while adding 15 points and 62 penalty minutes in 63 playoff games.

He notably won the first and only Stanley Cup of his career last season with the Panthers.
