In the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs, the New York Rangers took on the two-time defending champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Through the first two games of the ECF, it looks like the Rangers were going to run away with the series, defeating the Lightning 6-2 in game 1, then 3-2 in game two. But then the Lightning took over the series and won 4 straight games to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.
For awhile now the best goalie in the league has been the Lightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy, but last season his fellow Russian countrymen had a historic season for the Rangers. Igor Shesterkin finished last season with a .935 SV% and 2.07 GAA which won him his first Vezina trophy as the leagues best goaltender.
Last night the Rangers and Lightning had their first rematch in the season opening game in North America and the Rangers out-dueled the Lightning, defeating them 3-1, and Rangers fans began to let Vasilevskiy know what they thought of him!
