Mika Zibanejad and his brother Monir Kalgoum (same mother, different father), have been listed in a lawsuit that deals with an unpaid loan in Sweden. If it is successful, both risk losing their homes.

Brodernas

Zibanejad and Kalgoum invested in a burger chain in Sweden some time ago called Brodernas, which translates to "Brothers." At one point, the CEO of the company took out a loan for just over $400,000 USD. It was backed by Zibanejad and Kalgoum, who put up their homes as collateral. That loan has not yet been paid back, and the creditor wants their money.

"Zibanejad and Kalgoum are included in the lawsuit because they chose to pledge their properties as collateral for a loan taken by Brödernas CEO Joakim Wiklander." - Aftonbladet.se

No Settlement

The court documents says all parties agreed to sit down in an attempt to reach a settlement, but they couldn't do it. Zibanejad and his brother have yet to respond to the lawsuit.

This isn't the first time Zibanejad and his brother have had business dealing together. When Zibanejad signed a huge new eight-year, $68 million extension with the New York Rangers in 2021, the agent listed on the contract was Kalgoum. He is a former hockey player who now owns an agency. Zibanejad appears to be his only NHL client.
