MAJOR: Alex Ovechkin's Retirement Draws Near After Shocking Record Broken
Alex Ovechkin's career hit a new low tonight making people wonder if his retirement is closer than we thought.
Ovechkin's Retirement Could Be Near After Shocking Record Broken
Tonight Alex Ovechkin broke a crazy record that has shown potential signs of him slowing down. Tonight Ovechkin failed to record a shot against the Ottawa Senators. This was his second game in a row without a shot. This is the first time Ovechkin has gone two games without a shot.
After Monday's game vs #Flames and tonight's game @ #Sens, Alex Ovechkin has been held without a shot on goal in consecutive games for the first time in his ENTIRE career (per NHL.com's Tom Gulitti), which is in its 19th season.
He has also been held without a goal through the first 3 games for the 2nd season in a row, and just the 3rd time in his career.
The longest Ovi has gone without a goal to start a season was in the 2013 lockout year, when he went 4 games without a goal. He led the NHL in goals that season with 32 in 48 games. #ALLCAPS
The Capitals season is off to a horrendous start winning just one out of three games. On top of this, Alex Ovechkin remains without a goal. New head coach Spencer Carbery was supposed to bring a more offense-centered fun style of play to the Capitals. Instead, they have struggled to succeed and Ovechkin has looked subpar.
While the team as a whole has struggled one has to wonder if this is a sign to come of the play from Alex Ovechkin. He is now 38 and father time catches everyone eventually.
Let's all hope that Ovechkin gets back to his old self and we can watch him properly chase history as he hunts down Wayne Gretzky's goal record.
