Goalie goals are usually scored when the opposing team has an empty net and are incredibly rare. However, tonight we got treated to one following an incredibly awkward play that led to an AHL team scoring on their own net.
Strauss Mann, a goaltender for the Laval Rocket, the Montreal Canadiens AHL affiliate, has officially been credited with a goal after the Rochester Americans scored on their own net.
Rochester had pulled their goaltender following a delayed penalty, and while trying to set up in the offensive zone, accidentally sent the puck flying all the way back into their own net. Mann was the last player on Laval to touch the puck, and therefore he was credited with his first career AHL goal!
Congrats, Strauss!
