Like it or not the Montreal Canadiens new general manager Kent Hughes is openly honest on the Canadiens and his possible moves. So when Hughes was asked about defenceman Jeff Petry, Hughes admitted that a Jeff Petry trade could definitely happen this summer.
For those that didn't hear the Canadiens were in talks with the Philadelphia Flyers just before the deadline to send Petry to the Flyers for forward James Van Riemsdyk, however the teams couldn't finalize that deal. But could definitely see this happening this offseason.
Like 99% of the Canadiens, Jeff Petry had a rocky season, especially when Dominique Ducharme was head coach. Jeff Petry only had one goal and was heavily criticized by the fans, media, and even Dominique Ducharme after not standing up to Edmonton Oilers Zach Kassian after running over Habs goaltender Samuel Montembeault.
However Jeff Petry's game improved like many of the Canadiens after the hiring of Martin St Louis as the Canadiens new head coach, until a season ending injury.
Jeff Petry is from Michigan and has also hinted he would like to play close to home and Petry will definitely be on his way out by the offseason after Habs GM Kent Hughes told Marco Normandin that a Petry trade could very well happen but it has to make sense to the Canadiens also not just Jeff Petry.
