After a very impressive streak of 989 consecutive games the NHL's Ironman Keith Yandle's streak is going to end tonight.
Though it's not by his decision, the Philadelphia Flyers are making Yandle a healthy scratch tonight vs the Toronto Maple Leafs and Keith Yandle is cleary not happy.
The Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher told Yandle that the team wants to get some of the young kids in some games. After another disappointing season the Flyers need to look at what they have to try to do better next year.
Clearly a disappointing decision by the Flyers, you didn't want to see his streak ended this way, so you can't blame Yandle for being upset. Yandle spoke with the media today on the Flyers decision.
"It's just one of those things you know is going to happen toward the end of the year when you're signing young guys and getting free agents out of college, they're going to give them a chance to play," said Yandle on Saturday. You've got to respect that out of the business side of it and what they're trying to do here,"
Yandle has taken the decision handed down to him with grace and understanding as the veteran team player he is. Although plenty have already objected to this decision from the Flyers on his behalf, in my opinion this isn't the right call, especially when Yandle was so close to make it over a 1,000 straight games. I feel Flyers Gm Chuck Fletcher made a bad decision.
